How We Achieved N1trn Revenue in Six Months Despite Drop in Imports, by Apapa Customs Controller

The Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Command, Dr. Babatunde Olomu, has given insight on how the Command was able to collect as much as N1trillion in the six months despite sharp drop in imports nationwide.
Olomu said that most of the successes achieved were due to the robust measures which the Command had to adopt to reduce losses.
He disclosed that the Command had to address issues of leakages in the system as well as adopting some measure of synergy with sister security agencies and stakeholders.
The Controller said that some seizures were made during the period with duty paid value of over N424 billion ,
Among the items seized were frozen foods, Pharmaceuticals, footwears, used clothings ,armored cables.
He told newsmen ‘Upon taking over as the Area Comptroller of Apapa Port Command, I set up a revenue recovery Committee comprising seasoned and dedicated officers with the mandate to carry out more detailed look into areas of leakages, especially in bonded terminals under Apapa Command..
“I have a team of dedicated officers charged with the responsibility of addressing all complaints or disputes within record time before escalation to my office for prompt action.
I don’t run open policy because for me, there is literally no door at all if you want to access my office. My office is open to everyone to discuss anything that will facilitate legitimate trade and promote Government interests at all times including receiving information on suspected smuggling activities.”
