Tinubu Directs Speedy Completion of Dry Ports Projects Across Nigeria
President Bola Tinubu on Thursday gave a directive that all pending projects in respect of inland dry ports across the country should be completed without further delay.
Tinubu who gave the directive during the inauguration of the Inland Dry Port, in Funtua, Katsina said inland dry ports help in diversifying the national economy which is in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, the President said the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Nigerian Shippers Council should ensure the full utilisation of the dry ports.
According to the President, this will help in decongesting the nation’s seaports and therefore improve on ease of doing international business.
The President described the inauguration of the Funtau inland dry port as a step forward for the Nigerian economic development, adding that the infrastructure will help in creating job opportunities for the people in that part of the country.
Thew Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Adebayo Oyetola, in his statement at the occasion pointed out that the Funtua Inland Dry Port was among the six others approved by the government, and completed by the present administration.
The Minister said the dry port will go a long way in assisting to facilitate trade with Niger Republic, Chad, among other sister African countries.
The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr Pius Akutah, said the dry port was coming at the right time, adding that it will lead to increase in volume of trade in the region.
Akutah assured that the council would be on ground to ensure that activities in the dry port were run in line with laid down rules and regulations.
