The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has expressed concerns over illegal stripping of containers along ports access roads.
The Managing Director of the Authority, Mohammed Bello Koko said this was not acceptable because of the menace it was causing to ports users.
Bello Koko who spoke when he visited the Tin Can Island Port Complex on Friday said those engaged in illegal stripping of containers would not be allowed in the Electronic Call-up System (ETO) platform administered by the Truck Transit Park (TTP) Limited.
The NPA MD said only approved designated stripping yards would be allowed to check the issue of trucks loitering along the ports access roads.
He disclosed that Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) has been put in place by the authority for barge operators.
According to him, the SOPS will be a guide for all operators, adding that illegal stripping was responsible for gridlock and chaos for ports users.
He said that henceforth, the NPA will be collaborating with the Lagos State Government and other agencies to check any illegality on the ports access roads.
He also warned that stripping yards that fail to abide by the regulations will be shut down.
