Shippers Council Introduces Online Portal to Improve on Shipping, Address Security Issues at Eastern Ports

The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) has introduced online registration user guide to improve on shipping operations and address issues of insecurity at the Eastern ports.
The Council said the idea is to ensure total return of sanity in shipping activities at all terminals in Eastern ports.
The Director in Charge of Consumers Affairs, NSC, Chief Cajetan Agu explained during the launching of the Online Portal for the Registration of Regulated Port Service Providers and Users in Port Harcourt described it as the first time in the history of the zone.
Agu who represented the Executive Secretary of the Council, Honourable Emmanuel Jime said the digital innovation was deliberate to ensure trust in the shipping in all the ports in the East.
According to him, one of the challenges in shipping in the Eastern ports was insecurity, explaining that the newly introduced technology would offer means on the issues can be addressed.
He said the latest user guide was a departure from manual registration, explaining that the advantage would be in reducing cost and time.
He said ” The issues of security are there. When you don’t know anybody security is compromised, but when you know the people, security is guaranteed. With this, we can profile people and know who is doing what in the Port.

In his speech, the Director of NSC, South-South Zone, Mr Glory Onojedo, said the move was a good development considering that before access into the ports did not have control.
According to Onojedo, “The registration means so much to us in this zone. If you look at the ports in the Eastern zone particularly, area 1 Port and Onne, access into the ports lacks effective control”.
