A retiree with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) was on Wednesday jailed 14 years over N24.3 million waste bin and vehicle documents fraud.
The retiree, Nasiru Ogara, was charged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on four count charge bordering on obtaining by false preferences and issuance of dud cheques.
The case was filed against him and his company, New Age Motor Waste Basket Ltd..
An Ikeja Special Offences Court presided over by Justice Mojisola Dada said the prosecution proved the case against the retiree and his company .
Justice Dada found the retiree and his company guilty on counts one, two and three and sentenced him to 14 years prison on counts one and two.
He was also sentenced to two years jail term on count three, according to report from Maritime First Newspapers.
But he was discharged on count four with sentences running concurrently.
The court imposed a fine of N15 million on the retiree’s company and ordered that it should be wound up with assets sold and the proceeds used to pay the complainant.
The court equally ordered the retiree to restitute the sum of N24,3 million to the complainant.
EFCC Counsel, Mr Nwandu Ukoha, told the court that Ogara and the company committed the offences on Dec. 17, 2017 when he induced Mr Usman Ademoye, Director of Kelly Newton Nigeria Ltd., “to confer a benefit on him by delivering 8,000 units of waste bins worth N5.2 million to him in the understanding that the waste bins would be paid for” which turned out to be false.
