ANLCA Crisis Latest: Afolabi-Led BoT Picks New CAC Certificate, Dares Mustapha Group

The African adage that the man who holds yam is the one that plants it in every land tussle appears to be the case in the ever unfolding imbroglio in the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Association of the Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA).
This is following the new Certificate of Incorporation received from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) by the 2020 BoT of ANLCA led by the Chairman of Sifax Group, Chief Taiwo Afolabi.
The Acting President of the Association, Dr. Kayode Farinto, announced the reception of the new certificate in a press statement he personally signed on Friday.
Armed with the certificate, Farinto advised all stakeholders to “disregard any other group or individuals that are parading themselves as ANLCA board members”.
He maintained that those parading themselves as board members were simply those expelled by the Association.
He said that the ANLCA NECOM was aware of frantic moves by the expelled members to get recognition from stakeholders, adding that they have been distributing letters of introduction for recognition.
Farinto said that while the issue of letters of introduction is being investigated, he warned that those letters do not and cannot have the backing of the ANLCA NECOM.
He also warned that the perpetrators would be to book in due course.
The Acting President however said that NECOM would not close its doors for discussion with the aggrieved members in the spirit of moving the association forward.
Farinto’s statement reads: “Gentlemen of the Press, the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) wishes to inform all stakeholders, especially in the Maritime, Transportation, logistics chain and the general public that:
“1 The ANLCA, after the expiration of the six (6) years tenure of the former Board of Trustees ( BOT) members whose tenure runs ( February 2014- February 2020) as enshrined in the association’s Supreme constitution held an Annual General Meeting ( AGM ) as stipulated by the ANLCA’s constitution in December 2020 to elect new board members,
“2 That at the AGM which was held in December 2020 at Owerri, the Imo State capital was duly attended by all ANLCA members, where the election of the board members were conducted both virtually and physical,
“3 At the end of voting nine ( 9) prominent and duly registered members of ANLCA were elected into the board for a period of six (6) years single tenure as contained in the ANLCA’s amended constitution,
“4 The nine (9) newly elected board members were, Dr Taiwo Afolabi, Prince Ozo Chukwura, Chief Kingsley Offor, Alhaji Shamsideen Awoteju, Igbaroola Eniola John and Obi Azodo. Others are Alhaji Isa Aliyu, Abel Timothy Ayokunle and Chief Igwe Christian Odinaka,
“5 Gentlemen of the press it is worthy to note that , since their election , the association has be painstakingly carrying out procedural processes of registering the new board members with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Am happy to announce to you that, on the 7th September, 2022, the ANLCA National Executive Committee working with the board and other members was able to get the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Registration of the new ANLCA board members,
“6 With the new development , all stakeholders are advised to disregard any other group or individuals that are parading themselves as ANLCa board members. While we don’t want to over flogged the issues in our association being perpetrated by expelled members of the association, we want to assure Maritime stakeholders and indeed the general public and our members that the ANLCA leadership will never succumb to blackmail of mischief makers. But rather will follow the rule of law and stick to the Supreme constitution of ANLCA as a status symbol of all registered associations.
“7 The ANLCA NECOM is also aware of the expelled members and their cohorts circulating letters of introduction to Stakeholders for recognition. While we are still investigating the matter, we want to state that such letters does not and cannot have the backing of the ANLCA NECOM, but we promised to bring the impersonators to book in due course,
Finally, in the spirit of reconciliation, this NECOM is ready to discuss with all aggrieved members in order that we can move forward the association and in the interest of our numerous members suffering on the field .i want to declare that, there is No Victor, No Vanquish, hence we should all put our hands on deck and jettison any selfish interest for the overall interest of our members and the association”.
