The Founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, has advocated that the solution to the endless crisis in the Board of Trustees of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) was for the youths to rise and retire the elders in the association.
Aniebonam said this measure should be seen as a bold step to achieve lasting peace in ANLCA, adding that the crisis in the association has its routes from elders of the body.
Speaking to SHIPPING DAY, Aniebonam said since the elders in the Association have continued to cause endless trouble in the association, the challenge was for the youths to rise and send them to the back bench.
He said that if the elders in the association love ANLCA, they should voluntarily leave the scene for peace to reign, adding that the crisis was not good for members and the industry.
On how the youths can retire the elders, he explained that this should be through democratic processes.
Aniebonam said his association, NAGAFF, was a role model in giving youths a chance to lead, stating that he has since remained at the back bench for the young ones.
“NAGAFF is a model in championing youth leadership. All these old people in ANLCA should go to the back bench and allow the young ones to run the association. You can see me, I am at the back of the compound”, he told SHIPPING DAY.
He explained that what he does from the background was simply to give advice while the youths who are stronger run the association.
Aniebonam said, “the youths of ANLCA should retire all these old people through democratic means. You can see what is happening in Nigeria, the youths say they can no longer contend with the bad situation and you can see what is going on in Nigeria and the youths are trying to take back their country.. Any right thinking person should support them. So the youths in ANLCA should take over ANLCA”.
The NAGAFF founder however noted that the problem would be on who will take the lead.
He said that somebody like the current Vice President of ANLCA, Dr. Kayode Farinto should take the lead to retire all the old members of ANLCA.
According to him, “ The problem is the youth there that will galvanize others … somebody like Farinto should galvanize the youths to take over from these people.
He (Farinto) should reach out to young freight forwarders. It is a simple straightforward thing and I am using myself as an example, you see me at the back bench”.
Aniebonam also disclosed that his association has concluded plans to retire old board members for fresh ones to take over from them.
He said the younger ones will be more vibrant to take over the association.
He said, “As a matter of fact, members of board of NAGAFF, we are moving them to the Elders Council of NAGAFF and the young ones will come in and take over.
We are doing this because of the importance of the board, …. we need more vibrant people that can take responsibility while we come from rear to give advice”.
It would be recalled that the ANLCA has for long remained in crisis over unsettled Board of Trustees tussle.
The Secretariat of the Association in Amuwo Odofin is currently under lock as the leaders of the association have been meeting to resolve the crisis.
The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN ) is said to have intervened in resolving the crisis between the Taiwo Mustapha group and NECOM.
