353 on Death Row, 210 Others on Life Jail in Kirikiri, Says NCoS

No fewer than 353 inmates are on death row and 210 others are also on life jail at the dreaded Kirikiri Custodial Centre.
This was disclosed by the spokesman of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Lagos State, Mr Rotimi Oladokun, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.

The offences of the inmates on death row, the Centre said included armed robbery; murder; treason; fabricating false evidence leading to the conviction to death of an innocent person; aiding suicide of a child or lunatic; kidnapping among others..
Oladokun said there are five custodial centres in Lagos, including Ikoyi, Badagry, Kirikiri Female, Kirikiri Medium and Kirikiri Maximum.
He explained that while Ikoyi Custodial Centre accommodates only 800 inmates, it has about 2,400 inmates currently.
He said the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre which has the capacity for 5,930 inmates, was hosting fewer inmates.
