Customs Unit Records N18.7Bn Seizures in One Year

The Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Monday said it recorded 707 seizures which market value was put at N18.710 bn in the past one year.
The Unit also said it realized N1.012 billion between January and December from issuance of Debit Note on goods cleared at the ports whose owners underpaid duties.
This was disclosed by the Controller of the Unit, Compt IK Oladeji, during a press conference in Lagos.
According to Oladeji, 94 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures, He added that 6 of them were convicted.
Among the seizures were frozen products, drugs, foreign rice, second hand vehicles, refrigerators and bales of second hand clothing
Details of the seizures according to him include:
1. 48,912 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg each
2. 191,975 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)
3. 7,861 kg of Cannabis sativa
4. 6,168 pieces of dry donkey skins
5. 37,630 sachets of Tramadol
6. 207 units of Motor Vehicles{ Some of which were arrested for short payment of Duty and later cleared after payment of outstanding Duty}
7. 6,755 cartons of foreign frozen poultry products
8. 1,433 bales of used clothes
9. 1,773 units of used refrigerator compressors
10. 317 cartons of illicit medicament”
