By Francis Ugwoke
The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) is on the move to transform the freight forwarding profession with plans for high capacity building for members.
This was disclosed during the 25th anniversary celebration by the association held in Lagos.
As part of this move, the association was able to raise the sum of N100 million for the construction of a new secretariat as part of the transformation agenda.
The President of the association, Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, said the association will continue in its agenda of transformation for the interest of the profession and the national economy.
Ezisi said the association will continue to create jobs for members.
Ezisi said, “Over the last 25 years, we have built not just practitioners but a community committed to adding value to the maritime industry and the nation. “By creating over 50,000 jobs, we’ve provided alternatives to crime, helping young people find purpose and contribute to their families and society.”
He also called on the NCS, NPA, NSC, and others to step up and ensure that the nation’s ports are competitive like what happens globally.
He also said that the association was determined to ensure transparency as members carry out their jobs in the ports.
He said, “We’ve been instrumental in blocking revenue leakages and setting the standard for honest declarations in trade.”
Members of the association who attended the event were able to raise N100m through individual donations.
This was as the Founder of the association, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, was able to attract so many important personalities, including monarchs, to the event held at Colonades Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The fund raising was led by Chief Emelie Okika (Oba Agbogidi N’Nri), who gave N20 million. Associates who came with him donated additional N3 million.
The NAGAFF President Ezisi donated N20million, followed by High Chief Azubuike Ekweozor (Ide Umuawulu Nwanayoeze) who gave energy with a N10 million.
Others who donated include Ikorodu Chapter of the association which gave N10 million.
The Silver Jubilee celebration was attended by many industry stakeholders.
