Tinubu Orders Finance Minister to Prepare Cost Implications of New Minimum Wage in 48 Hours

The Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, was on Tuesday directed by President Ahmed Tinubu to prepare the cost implication of an affordable and sustainable new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
The Minister w as asked to submit the memo to the federal government within 48hours.
This was as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) suspended the nationwide strike and asked members to go back to work.
Government had agreed to pay more than N60,000 minimum wage to Nigerian workers.
Tinubu gave the order during a closed door meeting attended by members of the government negotiation team on the new minimum wage under the leadership of the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who spoke to newsmen said members of the team at the meeting were Ministers of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu; Labour, Nkiru Onyejeocha and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.
Meanwhile, the Senate also pledged that it would ensure that the National Minimum Wage Bill is accorded accelerated hearing and passed.
