Tin Can Island New Berth: Our RORO Vessel Has Capacity for 2,500 Cars, 2000 Containers, Says PTML MD

The Roll-on-roll (RORO) vessel which was received at the Tin Can Island Port, Lagos, on Monday has capacity to carry 2,500 cars and 2,000 containers, the Managing Director of PTML, Mr Ascanio Russo, has said.
The vessel, MV Great Lagos, was received in Lagos by both the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola and the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Among others on ground to receive the vessel were the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello Koko; and the Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh,
The Lagos state governor who was represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, said the arrival of the vessels showed that the international community has confidence in Nigeria.
Oyetola who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani, said the berthing of the vessel at the Tin Can Island port showed the dedication of the Nigerian Ports Authority to improve on the efficiency of the ports.
The Managing Director of PTML, Mr Ascanio Russo, in his welcome address described the vessel as a marvel of modern engineering and environmental consciousness.
Russo said the vessel stretches 290 metres in length with a beam of 38 metres and a deadweight of over 45,000 tonnes.
He added that the vessel can transport 4.7 kilometres of rolling freight, 2,500 car equivalent units (CEUs), and 2,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
Russo added that the vessel, MV Great Lagos is the second of the G5-class ships that were launched recently by the Grimaldi Group and named after Nigeria’s commercial capital.
