NLC, TUC End Nationwide Strike After Meeting with FG

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday suspended the nationwide strike which started on Tuesday.
The decision to suspend the strike followed a meeting between leaders of the labour unions and the federal government.
Labour leaders and federal government officials had attended an emergency meeting where they reached a truce to end the strike.
Among those who attended the meeting were the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Bako Lalong and Minister of State, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyeajeocha..
On the labour side, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Makut Simon Macham were the TUC President, Comrade Festus Osifo; NLC Secretary General, Emmanuel Ugboaja and TUC Secretary General, Nuhu Toro.
During the meeting, Ribadu disclosed that the attackers of the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, have already been arrested and being investigated.
Following the peaceful meeting with the government, NLC and TUC had held a meeting Tuesday evening to call off the strike.
Labour had demanded the arrest and prosecution of the Special Adviser to the Imo State Governor on Special Duties, Chinasa Nwaneri, thugs and other police officers named in the attack.
Prominent Nigerians, including members of the National Assembly had condemned the attack on the NLC President.
