NNPP Crisis Worsens as Party Suspends Kwakwanso, Others, Elects New Chairman

*Kwakwanso faction fights back, expels Aniebonam

Crisis engulfed the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with the suspension of its presidential flag bearer in the concluded 2023 general election and national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso over allegation of breaching party rules and regulations.
The party which met in Lagos for two days also announced sack of its National Working Committee (NWC) with the election of Acting National Chairman of the Party, Dr. Gilbert Agbo Major.
At a meeting held in Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, the new National Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Party, Chief Dr. Temitope Aluko said members of the new NWC include Barr Tony Christopher Obioha as Deputy National Chairman, Comrade Ogini Olaposi as National Secretary.
Among others were National Woman leader – Hajia Rekia Zanlaga, National VC North Central – Mark Usman, National VC North West –Umar Jibiril, National VC South West – Alhaji Adebanju Wasiu.
The suspension of Kwankwaso and others followed a voice vote by members at the Tuesday meeting.

The former NWC members were accused of breaching party constitution.
Kwakwanso was accused of meeting with President Ahmed Tinubu and leaders of the People’s Democratic Party and Labour Party without authorization from the BoT.
Kwakwanso will remain suspended for six months.
However, Kwankwaso faction also said in another meeting on Tuesday held at Abuja that Aniebonam and some other party members have been expelled.
Aniebonam was accused of creating a parallel group in the party, a development that was described as capable of causing disaffection.
But at the Lagos meeting on Tuesday, members of the party described the purported suspension of Aniebonam and the Publicity Secretary as invalid.
In his acceptance speech, the new Ag. Chairman promised to reposition the party.
He promised that he will work towards getting those who left the party in the past 21 years of existence to come back.
