Tinubu Laments Debt Servicing with 90% Revenue
*Says Nigeria headed for destruction should such continue
*Describes electricity generation as shameful
President Bola Tinubu on Sunday expressed concerns over servicing of the nation’s debts with 90 percent of her revenue.
Tinubu who said Nigeria cannot continue in such arrangement added that this was because it could lead to destruction.
Speaking on the occasion of the Nigerian Bar Association Annual Conference held in Abuja said his government must make difficult changes for the good of the country.
The President however expressed hope that Nigeria will be better and called for the cooperation of the private sector.
According to him, “Can we continue to service external debts with 90% of our revenue? It is a path to destruction. It is not sustainable. We must make the very difficult changes that are necessary for our country to get up from slumber and be respected among the great nations of the world.
“To build a great nation, we must make bold decisions; even though it may be painful at the moment, it is not about you and me. It is about our generation yet unborn.”
“Yes, it is a shame not to have adequate electricity for the mass majority of homes in Nigeria and to power our industries. How can we address poverty without electricity? We can take many people out of poverty with an uninterrupted electricity supply. Poverty is not acceptable, and we must banish it”.
President Tinubu also described the power supply situation in the country as shameful and promised that his administration will bring about changes.
According to him, his administration will make sure that the country generates and distributes electricity as required by the economy.
