Journalists to Join NLC on Nationwide Strike Over Fuel Subsidy
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Sunday said it will join the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the nationwide strike it declared next week if the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNCPL) fails to reverse the hike on fuel price.
In a statement, the National secretary of the Union, Mr. Shuaibu Usman Leman, said this was the decision of the body after a meeting on Sunday.
The statement reads , “ CWC directs all state councils of the union to mobilise members to withdraw their services and commence protests nationwide from Wednesday next week, 7th June, 2023, if the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNCPL) refuses to reverse the new price regime in the oil sector.
“The sudden removal could however lead to social unrest and protests as people may perceive the government as being insensitive to their plight”.
