Nigerians are currently facing hard times following the decision of petroleum marketers to hoard the products in reaction to the statement by President Bola Tinubu that subsidy on fuel has been removed.
Many marketers had on hearing the statement from President Tinubu on Monday closed their filling stations, a development that has left many Nigerians, particularly Lagosians in intense hardship.
As at Tuesday, it was difficult to see where to buy fuel even to power generators for home use.
Incidentally, the matter was made worse as the power situation has also worsened.
The closure of filling stations by marketers led to rise in the prices being sold at the black market.
Motorists and residents who patronized black marketers said a litre was selling for N700.
Many workers and traders who were going to their various offices and places of business who could not afford the fare had to turn back.
Our Correspondent reports that commercial bus operators hiked their fares by more than 500 percent.
Although the President has already clarified that the fuel subsidy removal will not be immediately, many marketers do not seem to believe him and have continued to hoard the products.
It was gathered that the fuel scarcity was a general issue as marketers in other states also closed their stations and those open selling at very high prices per litre.
