Benin Port: Project Steering Committee Completes Request for Qualification Exercise

The Request for Qualification (RFQ) exercise in respect of the Benin Port has been completed, the Chairman of the Benin Port Project, Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, has disclosed.
With this development, action as far as the project is concerned is expected to be fastened.
Ogbeifun said that the Transportation Minister, Muazu Sambo had following the due process initiated by the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, set up a Project Steering Committee (PSC) and Project Delivery Team (PDT) to ensure that the Benin Port project is realized under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
This was as approved by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).
It would be recalled that the PSC and PDT include representatives from the Ministry of Transportation Ministry, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ministry of Justice (FMOJ), Federal Ministry of Finance (FMOF), Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE), Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Edo State Government (EDSG), and the Transaction Adviser (CPCS Transcom, Canada).
Ogbeifun was quoted saying, “The RFQ advertisement was approved by the PDT and officially launched by the Transaction Adviser (CPCS) in both national and international media publications on 15th and 16th February 2023, and a virtual pre-application conference was held with prospective bidders on 22nd February 2023.”
He gave stakeholders the assurance about the commitment of the Edo State Governor for a transparent and competitive bidding process as far as development of the Benin Port is concerned.
According to Ogbeifun, the governor wants international best practices to be followed.
