Train, BRT Collision at Oshodi Kill Two

At least two persons have died following a train and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) collision near Oshodi in Lagos on Thursday.
Many people were also reported to have suffered injuries following the incident.
Eyewitness account said the BRT was crossing the rail when it slowed down when the train rain into it.
The train was said to have been coming from Abeokuta in Ogun State.
The Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Mr. Fidet Okhiria, who confirmed the incident said it occurred at Sogunle area of Lagos.
Okhiria said that based on the information from the National Emergency Management Agency, two bodies have been recovered from the scene.
The NRC MD was quoted saying, “According to the information I gathered at the scene of the incident, they said many cars stopped when they got to the level crossing while the Lagos State Staff Bus driver continued moving, which I don’t know why.
”Maybe the driver thought he could pass before the train got nearer to him. He could not pass, then the train crushed the bus; that is what we gathered.
“The train was coming from Ijoko to Iddo.”
In a statement, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Taofiq, Adebayo, also confirmed that the BRT bus was crushed by a moving train.
He gave the registration No 04A- 48LA, adding that enforcement officers of LASTMA were responding to the incident.
