Kebbi Boat Mishap: 14 Bodies Recovered, 6 Still Missing
No fewer than 14 bodies have been recovered while six are still missing in the Kebbi boat mishap which occurred on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred in Koko/Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi with about 100 passengers who were heading to Samanaji, a riverside community.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that so far 80 passengers were rescued.
Kebbi state governor, Atiku Bagudu, and the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had on Thursday commiserated with the people of the community over the incident.
Bagudu had warned boat operators to always avoid night journeys and overloading as safety rules for their own good..
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the accident.
He was reported saying, “I am here with a top delegation to condole with you over the unfortunate boat mishap.
“We pray to God to forgive all who lost their lives and we pray for the recovery of the missing ones.”
