China Merchants Industry bags Order for Eight LNG Carriers
(Seatrade)China Merchants Industry and an undisclosed European owner have entered into a contract for the construction of four 180,000 cu m LNG carriers plus four options.
The contract comprises four firm orders and two options for two vessels apiece. The newbuilds, jointly designed by Deltamarine and China Merchants Industry’s Haimen production base in Jiangsu province, will equip the vessels with a GTT Mark III Flex system. The first ship is due for delivery at the beginning of 2026.
In October 2022, China Merchants Heavy Industry-Jiangsu and GTT signed a Technical Assistance and License Agreement to enable the yard to construct vessels using GTT membrane technologies.
China Merchants Industry is the leading LNG carrier repair and conversion yard in China. The new order is a significant breakthrough for the company to enter into LNG carrier construction market, said China Merchants Industry.
