Mama Father, Virginia Ilechukwu, Jewel, Goes Home
Born on 20th December, 1943, (79years) at Amulor-Ogboli, Awgu Enugu State, to the family of late Mr. and Mrs. Agu of same village, little Virginia Okwuagu was a shining star and an embodiment of wisdom.
Due to her beauty, humility and hardwork, my late grandfather recommended her to my late father Joseph Onwubiko Ilechukwu for marriage and this union blossomed and produced five children, four boys and a girl, Alex, Ben, Rev. Fr. Clement-Mary (Fr. Prophet), Mathias and Pretty Agnes.
After the untimely death of her husband, mama father was determined to train her children and got a job with a Naval Commander in Lagos. But, shortly after that, she was employed as a junior catering officer at the medical centre, 82 Division Nigerian Army, Enugu on October 1st, 1980 through the personal effort of one of her sons, Ben Ilechukwu, who was still in secondary School at the time. Due to her hard work and entrepreneurial skills, she was promoted to grade level 4 step 10 on 18th November, 1993.
She was later transferred to military hospital, Port-Harcourt and later came back to the medical centre, Enugu, 82 Division Nigerian Army, where she voluntarily retired on 24th June 1997.
It is on record that mama father, Mrs. Virginia Ilechukwu was the only woman in the entire village of Amulor to secure a federal government work.
Described in several quarters as the matriarch of the Ilechukwu family, late Mrs. Virginia Okwuagu, led an exemplary life worthy of emulation.
She was a loveable woman, a prayer warrior and active member of the Holy Cross Parish, Iji Nike Abakpa Enugu, cheerful, peace maker and kind to a fault. During her active days at the medical centre, Mrs. Ilechukwu, fondly called Mummy, was prominent in settling disputes among workers.
Mama father ran a good race and has won the crown of eternal life of bliss. She died on 30th September, 2022, after a protracted illness at Jideofor Hospital Awgu. May her gentle soul rest in peace, Amen-Ilechukwu family
Meanwhile, a burial programme released by the Ilechukwu family, said there will be a 10am holy mass at St. Michaels Cathedral Church, NA Quarters Awgu on November 17th 2022 and later interment at her family home, Awgu.
