Flood States to Receive 12,000 Metric Tonnes of Food Items, Says NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Thursday disclosed that
12,000 metric tonnes of assorted food items have been prepared for presentation to flood states.
The items according to NEMA are already being transported to the states affected by flood.
The Director General, NEMA, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, told newsmen in Abuja that the relief materials would be sent to state governments which will in turn distribute to affected victims.
It would be recalled that several people died, thousands of houses, farmlands were destroyed as a result of the flood.
The relief materials would be sent to the 36 states and FCT Abuja for distribution to victims, according to Ahmed.
He however said his agency would need security operatives to accompany the relief materials to ensure the vehicles conveying them are not attacked on the way.

He said, : “We have some hiccups along the way in Lokoja. I have alerted the DSS and Inspector General of Polic to help us in clearing the way so that relief items can continue to get to all relevant states.”

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq who spoke on the occasion of the World Disaster Day celebration said the challenges posed by the flood in Nigeria would be addressed.
Represent by the Director in the Ministry Alhaji Ali Grema, the Minister said “More than 500 lives have been lost, more than 1.4 million persons affected, about 90,000 homes either partially or completely destroyed; and still counting.
“And also destroyed are thousands of hectares of farmland; thus, worsening fears of a disruption of food supply in Africa’s most populous country. These widespread cases are in 27 out of 36 States and the FCT.”
