Apapa Customs Collects N264bn in Q1

The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Thursday announced a revenue generation of N264.5billion in the first quarter of the year.
The figure is N104 billion or 65 percent more than the figure for last year which was N159 billion, according to the Area Comptroller, Yusuf Malanta.

Malanta told newsmen that the high revenue generation was as a result of creativity as well as deployment of IT platform to check revenue leakages.
He also said that the Command ensured high level of compliance by importers in the clearance of goods.
He disclosed that the Enforcement Unit of the Customs has been strengthened to tackle smuggling activities.
The Command according to the Controller seized some goods which importation was against sections 46 and 47 of Customs and Excise Management Act, CEMA CAP C45 LFN 2004.
According to him, “The command recorded 46 seizures of various items with a duty paid value of N1,142,876,606.00 as against twenty-eight (28) seizures made in the corresponding months of the year 2021. These seizures include unregistered medicaments such as tramadol and codeine syrup, unprocessed wood, used clothing, footwear, foreign parboiled rice and other sundry items that falls under prohibition list,”.
