The traditional Nigerian factor of money politics played a major role during the election of members into the Governing Board of the Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) held on Wednesday.
The election was held in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, River state.
SHIPPING DAY gathered that touts who posed as freight forwarders from different places were hired to be part of the voting process.
The source said many freight forwarders contesting the election paid as much as N10,000 per vote to be able to cruise to victory against opponents.
In the election, the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) proved more strength against its rival association , Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) in terms of number of votes and seats won.
However, the campaign against former President of NAGAFF, Dr. Increase Uche by the founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam failed to work as the former cruised to victory with 121 votes.
Freight forwarders who were elected in the Western zone include Alhaji Tanko Ibrahim – 179 votes (highest), Ndubuisi Uzoegbo – 147 votes, Tochukwu Ezisi – 110 votes, Ekemezie Joseph – 72 votes, Farinto Kayode – 72 votes.
Others who lost the election include Ejike Metu – 63 votes, Ozo Chukwura – 55 votes, Festus Ukwu – 4 votes.
At the Western Airports/Land borders, Timothy Awogbemi who is a member of NAGAFF had 145 votes (highest).

In Abuja, NAGAFF’s Princess Chi Eze scored 224 votes as against ANLCA’s Hajia Bola Muse and Muktau Yau who scored 90, 91 votes respectively.
Increase Uche despite all issues against him by his immediate association where he was President, beat his opponent , Chief Azubuike Ekweozor with 121 votes against 2 in the Airport and Land Borders.
The election which was organized by CRFFN was described as falling short of standard with allegation of vote buying by candidates.
Touts and miscreants were allegedly hired to masquerade as freight forwarders voting for candidates who had paid money.
