Promoters of Agge Deep Seaport on Tuesday held a meeting with the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, demanding for accelerated action on the planned deep seaport.

The Coordinator of the project, Elder Asu Beks had during the meeting described the project as capable of promoting industrial revolution in Bayelsa.

Beks called on the state governor for accelerated action on the actualization of the deep seaport project.

He explained that the meeting was aimed at charting a pathway for the actualization of the proposed Agge Deep Seaport Project; which according to him remains the most critical tonic in the industrial revolution of Bayelsa State.

He recalled that since the creation of the State in 1996, the Agge Deep Seaport has remained on the front burner of successive administrations but with little or nothing to show in concrete terms.
Beks however said that with the renewed impetus from the present administration coupled with Bayelsa’s rising profile in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, the meeting has become imperative to provide recommendations, set realistic targets and adopt pragmatic strategies for the successful take off of this project.

He told the governor, “Your Excellency, as our neighbouring states ramp up action on their port development projects, and as Nigeria positions to take advantage of opportunities in the African Continental Free Trade Agreement provides, it has become expedient for Bayelsa State to inaugurate a Technical Committee to drive the monumental task of delivering a viable world class port to the state in particular and Nigeria in general.

“This visit is therefore to draw your attention to the urgent need to expedite action in this regard, considering the socio-economic benefits of the project and its impact on human capital development in the state.
“Your Excellency, in addition we implore you to take advantage of the expertise of some of the highly experienced technocrats present here today to select capable professionals to serve on the Technical Committee which should be inaugurated as soon as possible.

“These individuals, some of whom were privileged to be part of the Technical Committee established by the past administration of Hon. Seriake Dickson, remain committed, passionate, and are willing to provide quality leadership that would steer us towards the actualisation of the Agee Deep Seaport project.
“They possess immeasurable experience, knowledge and networking capabilities which your administration will find useful, cost-saving and effective.

“Your Excellency, among other things, this meeting will serve to formally kick-start your administration’s noble efforts at providing Nigerians a gateway to the world on one hand, and an avenue for the world to benefit from the abundant aquatic resources of the State on the other hand.
“We also use this opportunity to commend you for the commissioning of the Bayelsa Airport, which we consider as an integral factor for the success of the Agee deep seaport project.

“We commend your administration for your several efforts at providing sustainable infrastructure, majority of which will be commissioned next week to mark your second year in office. Such laudable projects are aimed at modernising Bayelsa and elevating it to a position befitting of its status as a major oil and gas producing state .

“Your Excellency, distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, as we are gathered here, let us be reminded that, whatever we sow and agree on today, will either *serve as a legacy and a monumental leap or immortalize us in history as those who failed to perform when our services were mostly needed.*

“Let us therefore do this for the greater and common good; and for the benefit of the Glory of All Lands”.
