Amaechi Charges Lekki Port Promoters to Double Efforts on Completion
• COO assures on fourth quarter completion date

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi weekend charged the promoters of Lekki Deep Sea Port to double their efforts to ensure early completion.
Amaechi who undertook a tour of the facility with chief executives of government agencies however said government was satisfied with the level of work on the construction site.
The Minister commended the promoters on the pace of work but urged them to ensure their efforts were doubled for early completion of the project as planned.
Amaechi said, “I am happy; from the last time we came here, there has been huge progress; what this shows is that when you set your mind on something, you can achieve it. The agreement was that we would commission by the last quarter of 2022, but if we double our effort on this project, we could commission by July or August, and that would be great”.
The Chief Technical Officer, Lekki Port, Mr Steven Heukelom, in his response told the Minister that the construction work was going on as scheduled.
Heukelom disclosed that dredging and reclamation had reached 89.93 per cent completion with quay wall 85.65 per cent completion.
Other construction work such as breakwater – 79.66 per cent completion, landside infrastructure development – 67.82 per cent completion, he said, adding that this brings the project to 80% completion stage.
He also disclosed that work has started on the marine services jetty for the use of Nigerian Ports Authority.
He commended the Acting Managing Director of the NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko, for every support to ensure that the project begins operation.
On the other hand, Bello-Koko said the agency was ready to provide marine services for port operations, adding that the NPA would be procuring tug boats and other infrastructure for this purpose.
The Chief Operating Officer of Lekki Port, Laurence Smith, told the Minister that the port would be ready in the fourth quarter of the 2022.
He disclosed that the EPC Contractor, China Habour Engineering LFTZ Enterprise, has been working hard to ensure this is achieved.
