Armed men suspected to be pirates have struck at Bayelsa, abducting four workers of sub-contractor with the Conoil Plc.
The suspected pirates also abducted a security personnel working with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).
The incident occurred last week Wednesday at Koluama 1, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa, a source told newsmen.
The four officials were working with Conoil in the creeks when the pirates struck.
It was gathered that the pirates are demanding for a ransom of N25million for the release of their victims.
NSCDC spokesman in Bayelsa State, Solomon Ogbere, who confirmed the report was quoted saying, “They were all on mufti while returning to their base when they were attacked. Investigation is ongoing to track down the culprits”.
The state government had recently imposed curfew on the waterways as well as placed a ban on use of speedboats with 200 horsepower engines in the state.
It would be recalled that pirates had last week killed an official of NSCDC and two oil workers.
Seven other people were also reportedly kidnapped at Nembe local government area of Bayelsa.
