With Involvement of Top Ranking Security Operatives, Nobody Can Stop Crude Oil Theft, Says Wike
The Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike, on Monday said that one of the reasons why theft of crude oil will remain unstoppable was because of the involvement of security operatives in the crime.
Wike said that those involved in the crime were top ranking military officers, police and the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps (NCDC) .
Speaking while receiving the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Isiaka Oladayo Amao on a courtesy visit, he said the federal government should consider the damage being caused as a result of the activities of oil thieves,
Noting that this was a big threat to the national economy, he said that the criminals should be treated as treasonable offenders.
He said that apart from the wastage, there was also the issue of environmental degradation in the communities being caused by the criminals.
He charged the Task Force on oil bunkering in the state to find a better way of destroying the bunkering sites without harming the environment.
Amao said he came to the state for operational visit to 115 Special Operation Group in Rivers State and felt it was important to pay courtesy visit to the governor.
He commended Wike for being able to contain the security situation in the state, noting that Rivers has been very peaceful.
