Abuja Residents Mark 61st Independence with Buhari-Must–Go Protest

One of the highlights of today’s 61st Independence celebration in Nigeria is the protest by Abuja residents who demanded the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari from office.
The protesters in the early hours of today took over the Dantata Bridge on the International Airport Road in Abuja calling on the President to leave office.
The protest may not be unconnected with the insecurity in the country in which many Nigerians have lost their lives.
The protesters were armed with large banners which inscription read that the President must resign.
Following the protest, armed policemen were dispatched to the scene to disperse the protesters.
The Police had on reaching the scene feared teargas to disperse the protesters.
Sources close to the protesters said they were angered by the increasing insecurity in all parts of the country as well as economic hardship.
