Aniebonam Advises S’East Freight Forwarders on Choice of Venue for CRFFN Election
By Francis Ugwoke
The Founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, has advised freight forwarders to cooperate with the Committee organising the election into Governing Board of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) for a successful completion of the exercise.
Aniebonam who was reacting to the position of the freight forwarders from the South East who are insisting that they do not want Lagos as venue of election, said this depends on the Electoral Committee which is the only one vested with the power to determine which location is suitable for the election.
He said that ordinarily those going for the election in Lagos would not want Abuja as venue for the election in view of insecurity and logistics issues.
He added that in the same manner, the South East freight forwarders would wish the same that the election should be held in Port Harcourt.
But he added that only the Committee charged with the responsibility of organising the election has the right to determine which venue to choose.
Aniebonam reminded those saying that they want the election anywhere except Lagos to know the implication.
On the fear about rigging of the election being indirectly expressed by freight forwarders in the South East, Aniebonam reminded them of the first election organised by the CRFFN in Abuja and which was heavily rigged.
He recalled that what some people did was to register as many as possible who are not freight forwarders into CRFFN to qualify them for the election, a development he described as fraudulent.
He added that under the current arrangement for the election, the exercise has been zoned, in which the South East has five slots which nobody can take away from them.
Meanwhile there will be a stakeholders meeting today at Eko Hotel in Lagos between freight forwarders associations and the Ministry of Transport on the election.
At the end of their forum held in Port Harcourt on Monday, the freight forwarders from Eastern Zone rejected the choice of Lagos for the election.
The freight forwarders at the end of their meeting in Port Harcourt issued a communiqué insisting that they are ready for a centralized venue other than Lagos.
In other words, they agreed that they will be ready to go to Abuja for the election and not Lagos as against the wishes of those in Lagos.
