Labour Fumes, Threatens Strike to Stop New Increase in Electricity Tariff
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is bitter about the plans by the federal government to approve another increase in electricity tariff and will embark on strike to stop the implementation.
Noting that it is yet a speculation, the NLC said it will call its members out for strike if it is true.
In a letter signed by the NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, the NLC said that plan is to increase the tariff from N36 to N47.09 per kilowatt in Labour and Abuja areas.
It would be recalled that the federal government had approved the last increase in January this year.
The protest from labour is based on speculations that Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) plans to give fresh approvals to the operators.
NERC is said to be ready to give the approval based on claims of inflation and foreign exchange on the business of the operators.
