Customs Collects N1tn Revenue in Six Months

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Thursday announced it collected the sum of N1 trillion in the last six months of the year.
The Service told newsmen in Abuja that the sum represents an increase of N290. 20 billion compared to the figure for last year during the same period which was N713.54 billion.
The Customs Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Joseph Attah described the revenue collection as unprecedented in the service.
Attah said this was because the Service insisted on what is right in the industry.
He also said that the agency’s revenue rise has also been as a result to ongoing refomrs which has embraced technology.
Attah said the Service will continue to break its records by gnerating more revenue under favourable environment.
During the period, he said the Service 2,333 different goods which duty paid value were put at N4.42 billion.
According to him, the items seized include arms and ammunition, illicit drugs, and food items such as rice, vegetable oil, among others.
He also disclosed that owners of the 58 aircraft complied with the directive to produce their documents for verification before the deadline expired.
