Lamentations as Lagos Task Force Demolishes Illegal Structures at Tin Can Port

A Task Force set up by the Lagos State Government and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on Wednesday demolished illegal structures and other shanties at the Tin Can Island port evnironment in Lagos.
The Task Force which carried out the exercise was made up of Army, Police , LASTMA occials and NPA security .
The NPA had before now issued quit notices to the occupants of the illegal structures.
The Nigerian Port Process Manual Committee of the agencies in the ports had also lamented about the menace in Tin Can Island ports because of the shanty structures around the environment.
Apart from this, it was believed that the area had been taken over by touts and other criminals.
The illegal structures according to stakeholders were seen as den of robbers and other criminals making the Tin Can Island port area as dirty and unsafe.
Affected occupants of the illegal structures were full of lamentation following the demolition.
Most of the occupants are into restaurant businesses and other petty trade which are open even in the night.
