NDLEAIntercepts N10bn Herion in Lagos, Kano Airports

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted heroin worth N10bn in Lagos and Kano states.
The agency also arrested six persons in connection with the seizures.
The drugs were intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, and the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.
In a statement issued Sunday by the spokesman of the agency, Femi Babafemi, part of the drugs were discovered during examination of cargo at SAHCO Import Shed, MMIA, Lagos.
The cargo agent had presented the cargo from South Africa with an Ethiopian Airline ET 3901 Airway bill no: 071-40689003 to the NDLEA for examination.
The statement added that during the search, the drugs were found in Ghana-must-go bag.
The statemend showed that that another freight agent sub-contracted the clearing job to the second agent, adding that six suspects have so far been arrested in follow-up operations.
The substance tested positive for heroin with a total weight of 24.05kg, the statement said.
“Another consignment in the consolidated cargo has also proved to be methamphetamine with a weight of 1.25kg, bringing the total weight of illicit drugs seized in the cargo to 25.3kg”, the statement said.
In another development, the MAKIA Command of the NDLEA also seized a consignment meant for export to the United Kingdom at the cargo shed.
The statement said that following a test carried out on the consignment weighing 36kg, the result came out positive for khat, bringing the total weight of drugs seized at the two international airports to 61.3kg .
Acting Commander at the MAKA, Mohammed Ajiya, said every effort was being made to unravel the true owners of the drugs.
