Customs Seizes N3.1bn Contraband, Explosives
The Federal Operations Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ikeja, has announced an interception of 42 drums of explosives and N3.1billion worth of smuggled goods.
The explosives seized at Sango Ota, Ogun State, were concealed in calcium carbide, the Acting Controller of the Unit, Compt. Usman Yahaya, told newsmen.
The Controller who also said his Unit realized the sum of N242million from issuance of Demand Notice (DN) said most of the seized items were smuggled into the country from Benin Republic.
He said that the Unit is yet to find out the exact destination of seized explosives.
Among other items seized were 1,488 kegs of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS), bags of rice, Indian hemp, textiles material, cartons of tramadol, and second hand.
