Q1: Customs Generates N466.1bn Revenue

*As Ogun command seizes 38 trucks of rice

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Tuesday announced a revenue generation of N466.1 billion during the first quarter of the year.
This was contained in a document released in Abuja by Public Relations Officer of the Service, Mr. Joseph Attah.
The document showed that in January the Service recorded N157.6 billion, February – N138.9 billion and the sum of N169.4 billion in March which was the highest.
The highest revenue of N216.9 billion during the period came from import duties, Value Added Services (VAT) – N105.2 billion and N55.5 billion from levies.
According to the document, N50.8 billion was realized from federation account levies, N34.5 billion – from excise duty and N2.8 billion from fees.
The seizures including 37,206 bags, recorded by the Service were valued at N1,996,145,258.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Command of the Service Tuesday announced seizure of 38 trucks loaded with 19,000 bags of foreign rice in the first quarter of the year..
The value of the seizures was put at N307.8 million according to the Area Controller, Peter Kolo who said some of the items were concealed in Coca-Cola branded trucks.
