Customs: FEC Approves N1.59tn for Acquisition of 16 Patrol Boats, 427 Cars, Others

The sum of N1.59 trillion was Wednesday approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the acquisition of 16 patrol boats and 427 operational vehicles for the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).

Part of the funds will also be used for the University of Ibadan Library project and construction of an office complex for the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Lagos.
The approvals were made during the virtual meeting presided over by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja.
Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed and the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba told newsmen that the approvals were based on memos presented to FEC.
In a breakdown, the Finance Minister said the seven regular patrol boats for the Customs will cost N501.47 billion while the 427 patrol vehicles cost N14.5 billion.
The design, construction and supply of two NC36M Customs patrol boats will be at the cost of N5.06 billion with 12 months delivery period.
The delivery period for the regular patrol boats will be eight weeks and four months for the vehicles.
She also said that the construction of FIRS building in Lagos will cost N539.2 billion adding that this will be with the completion period of 52 weeks .
Ahmed added that the purchase of the two types of patrol boats is to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of operations of the Nigerian Customs Service to control smuggling and also ensure enhanced efficiency in all customs duty operations in the Marine Unit.
The Minister of State for Education, Nwajiuba also told newsmen that the sum of N532.6 million was for the award of contract for the construction and furnishing of the extension library of the University of Ibadan. He said the completion period is 48 weeks.
