Ngozi Okonjo Iweala Resumes as WTO DG

Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, will today resume duty as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Okonjo-Iweala was selected as WTO DG about two weeks ago.
She will serve till August 31, 2025 with the chances of her tenure being renewed.
On her selection, the new WTO DG stressed the need for procedural reforms so that members can be served better.
She had also said there was the need to strenthen WTO secretariat for the provision of cutting-edge services to members.
