Customs, Freight Forwarders Mourn as Ex-CGC, Dikko, Dies in Abuja
Officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), including freight forwarders have been thrown into mourning following the death of the former Customs Comptroller-General, Alhaji Inde Dikko.
Dikko died in a private hospital in Abuja after battling a protracted illness.
Close family sources said Dikko will be burried on Friday. December 19, according to Islamic rite.
Dikko’s death was a big shock to many officers and men of the Customs who said he improved the condition of Service of the Customs while he was in office.
He was described as good man who did not want officers of the Service to suffer any poor condition during his time.
Some freight forwarders also said he would be remebered for moving the Service forward and for prompt attention to issues while he was in office.
However, Dikko has been on the net of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegation of financial impropriety.
He was said to have entered into plea-bargain with the EFCC which led to his refund of $8million to the federal coffers.
Dikko’s house said to be over N1.1billion as well as personal cars worth millions of Naira were seized by the EFCC.
Dikko and a former Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Finance, Administration and Technical Services, Garba Makarfi and Umar Hussaini, a lawyer, are facing trial over the roles in the purchase of 120 units of duplexes as residential accommodation for officers of the service.
