Defence Minister Charges Nigerians to Defend Themselves Against Bandits, as 42 Abducted in Niger

The Defence Minister, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd), Wednesday charged Nigerians to rise up and defend themselves against bandits who have taken kidnapping as a big business.
Magashi gave the advice following the abduction of 42 Nigerians, mainly pupils from the Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State in the early hours.
According to the Minister, the bandits were currently enjoying their business as they attack communities who don’t care attacking back.
An eye witness said the bandits who were about 300 had attacked the school where they took away 27 of them, three staff of the school and their 12 family members.
Following the incident, President Muhammadu Buhari, Wednesday issued a marching order to the security chiefs to ensure that the victims were recovered.
The Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, told newsmen that no payment would be made to the kidnappers in respect of those abducted in Niger.
It would be recalled that the kidnappers had about two months ago also attacked the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, where they abducted 300 pupils.
They were taken to a forest where they were freed a week later.
It would be recalled that 21 Nigerians were also on Sunday last week kidnapped by bandits operating at Kundu village, near Zungeru, Yakila District of Rafi Local Government of Niger State.
The passengers were in a bus owned by the Niger State Government-owned transport authority (NSTA) when they were attacked at about 3pm.
Following the incident, the Niger state government has ordered the closure boarding schools in three local government areas in the state to avoid a reoccurrence.
All the security chiefs are in Niger to ensure that the 42 victims are rescued.
