Bandits Kidnap 21 Passengers in Niger, as Buhari Condemns Ethnic Violence
No fewer than 21 passengers were Sunday kidnapped by bandits operating at Kundu village, near Zungeru, Yakila District of Rafi Local Government of Niger State.
The passengers were in a bus owned by the Niger State Government-owned transport authority (NSTA) when they were attacked at about 3pm.
It was gathered that the passengers were immediately taken to the forest where they are being kept.
A source close to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, who confirmed the incient said the bandits were numbering over 30 when they struck.
It would be recalled that the District Head of Yakila, Alhaji Abdulhamid, who was reported to have been kidnapped about three months ago is yet to be released.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari Sunday condemned increasing ethnic violence in the country, promising that his government will protect all Nigerians.
In a statement by his media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, the President assured that his government will protect all religious and ethnic groups as provided in the Nigerian Constitution.
In his reaction to violence in some parts of the country,the President also warned that he will not allow any ehtnic or religious groups to promote hatred and violence against other groups.
He said his government will act fast in checking spread of violence in the country.
He called on governors to ensure that they check spread of violence in their states and communities.
