By Francis Ugwoke
The Chairman of Sifax Group Ltd, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, who is among the nine newly elected members of the Board of Trustees of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agent (ANLCA) may become the next Board Chairman of the association.
Afolabi who is an influential stakeholder in the freight forwarding industry and whose company is into bonded terminal is tipped to succeed the immediate past Chairman, Chief Henry Njoku.
Although he did not come first in the BoT election conducted virtually Wednesday, he is being considered in keeping with the zonal sharing arrangement of the association.
He scored 75 votes as against two other members of the Board who scored 82 and 81 votes respectively.
Afolabi’s choice to become the next Chairman is based on the fact that he is from the South West geographical part of the country since the President of the Association, Iju Tony Nwabunike hails from the South Eastern part of the country.
Besides, influential members of the association drawn from the South West, South East, South South and Northern parts of the country believe that with his professional integrity in the industry, he is in a position to do well as ANLCA Board Chairman.
Among other members of the board who emerged Wednesday were Elder Abel Timothy Ajokunle, Chief Chris Igwe, Chief Obi Azodo, Chef Eniola Igbaroola and Mr. Kingsley Ehiofor.
The new board members emerged during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Concorde Hotel, Owerri, Imo State.
Chairman of ANLCA’s Electoral Commission , Barr Raymond Onyimba, who announced the result of the election which was virtual said 678 votes were recorded during the exercise.
Former Chairman of the Board, Chief Henry Njoku In his advice urged the new boarder members not to see their positions as bed of roses where they can go and rest.
Njoku said the position of every board member should be seen as requiring personal sacrifices for the interest of the association.
He also said their positions as board members require a lot of wisdom and patience, adding that this was the only way to move ANLCA forward.
Njoku who hosted members to a dinner party in his Owerri home said ANLCA was in strong position to take members to greater heights.
A former Board member, Chief Peter Obi (Ogbuagu) while congratulating the new board members urged them to offer their best to move the association forward.
