The Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) and the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) are collaborating to ensure that the Apapa gridlock is addressed.
As part of this, the Executive Secretary of the NSC ,Mr Hassan Bello led key officials for an inspection tour of the Tin Can Island ports access roads with a view to figuring out how movement of trucks through the artery can be made easier.
The inspection tour was in collaboration with officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The latest role of the ports economic regulator may not be unconnected with its appointment by the federal government as the lead agency for the implementatin of the Nigerian Ports Process Manual (NPPM).
With the appointment, the Council is saddled with the task of overseeing ports operations on daily basis to achieve efficiency.
It would be recalled that Bello had last week visited some shipping companies and terminals to discuss, among other things, the effect of the Apapa gridlock on their businesses, particularly in this season.
The visit to Tin Can Island, according to a statement by the Head of Public Relations of the Council, Rakiya Zubairu was to explore some suggestions made by some terminals on the possibility of opening up certain roads.
Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo while launching the NPPM last week at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said implementation of the NPPM will improve the anti-corruption ranking of the country before the international community.
Speaking during the launch of the NPPM , Osinbajo said apart from achieving efficiency in pots operations, there was the need for an effective implementation of ideas that will change the perception and ranking of Nigeria in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) of Transparency International.

He said that the process manual was aimed at addressing vulnerabilities in the port system, adding that it will create an enabling environment for port users.
