One of the concessionaires, the Ports and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML), has donated a new Toyota Hilux van to the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) following the attack on the headoffice of the organisation during the EndSARS protest which also led to the destruction of some official vehicles.
The donation of the van was to help NPA cope with the logistics needs after losing 27 of the company’s official vehicles.
The Managing Director of PTML, Mr. Ascanio Russo presented the vehicle to the Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services of NPA, Prof. Idris Abubakar during a visit to the authority’s headoffice to sympathise with the management.
Russo described the attack on the building as making no sense since it has no connection with the EndSARS protest.
He assured the management that his company will continue to work together and support the authority.
According to him, “We came here as PTML and Grimaldi to express our sympathy to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for the horrendous attack they suffered three weeks ago when the headquarters was burnt.
“We came here to present this vehicle and this is a way for us to show our support to the Authority because we know that in times like this, it is our duty to support NPA, which has always been very supportive to us and to the whole port industry.
“So it is for us to show our commitment to work together with the NPA and express our solidarity and be with them in this very difficult period and to sympathise with them for this senseless attack because this has nothing to do with EndSARS protest. This is just an attack by criminals, which we strongly condemn.”
Abubakar who thanked Russo for the good gesture said 27 vehicles, 300 computers, 100 meters and other office equipment were lost during the fire incident.
He said that PTML was the first to make such donation to the authority.
