A good number of protesters were feared dead in Lekki Tollgate Lagos following the deployment of soldiers to stop the ENDSARS protesters in the area.
The protesters had insisted that they will not leave the Tollgate until their demands were met, a development which led to their attack at about 7 pm Tuesday by soldiers.
Gun shots were fired at the protesters which killed some of them and left others wounded.

In reaction, many world leaders have come out to condemn the government over their action.
The action of the government may however not be unconnected with the burning down of some police stations in Orile Iganmu, Mushin in Lagos, by some hoodlums.
The protesters had distanced themselves from such action, but government said some hoodlums took advantage of the protests to cause havoc in the state.
Following the incident, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a 24-hour curfew, saying what has happened so far was a big shock to him.
But world leaders and Nigerians have condemned the action of the government describing it as overkill against the protesters.
Among those who condemned the action of the government was former US Secretary of State, Mrs. Hilary Clinton who in her twitter “I’m calling on @mbuhari and the @hqnigerianarmy to stop killing young #EndSARS protesters of #StopNigeriaGovernment.”
Other Nigerians who also condemned the action were former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili and Gabrielle Union, and international artist.
The Socio-economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also condemned the action.
The curfew announced by the Lagos government at 12noon was to begin by 4pm but later extended to 9pm.
Before the attack on Lekki, officials of Lekki Concession Company (LCC) had removed the CCTV camera in the area.
The governor had said, “I have watched with shock how what began as a peaceful #EndSARS protest has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well-being of our society. Lives and limbs have been lost as criminals and miscreants are now hiding under the umbrella of these protests to unleash mayhem on our State.

As a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown a commitment to the movement #ENDSARS , we will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state.

I, therefore, hereby impose a 24-hour curfew on all parts of the State as from 4pm today, 20th October,2020.Nobody, except essential service providers and first responders must be found on the streets”..
