Gas Explosion Causes Havoc, Kills Five, Destroys 23 Buildings
Gas explosion Thursday caused havoc, killing five people and destroying 23 buildings in Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos.
The incident which involved a 30-tonne capacity cooking gas had also led to series of injuries of 30 people.
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described the incident as a sad memory of his administration.
Sanwo-Olu blamed the gas plant operators for negligence as the reason for the explosion.
It was gathered that the explosion affected 89 shops, including churches, school and event centre.
The explosion occurred at about 6.22am at Candos Road, Baruwa during discharging of LPG.
The South-west Zonal Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, told newsmen that five bodies had been recovered while some injured persons who suffered various degree of burns were rushed to hospital.
