Nigerians Face Hard Times as Petrol Price Now N159.99
*FG taking Nigerians for granted, says NLC President
*It is callous, unjustifiable – PDP
Nigerians may soon face hard times as major marketers increased fuel price to N159.99 per litre as at Wednesday.
There are indications that the price may sell over N160 per litre from today.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation had increased the fuel price from N138.62 per litre to N147.67 to major marketers.
The Petroleum Products Marketing Company on its own increased the ex-depot price of PMS to N151.56 per litre, one of the reasons why some major marketers have already started selling the product at N159.99 as at Wednesday evening.
It was also gathered that the products would be sold at over N160 from Thursday morning.
The implication is that Nigerians are indeed going to enter another phase of economic hardship occasioned by the fuel price hike coming at a time that they are yet to recover from the ravaging coronavirus pandemic.
Reacting to the increase, the President, Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, while condemning the increase said the federal government was taking Nigerians for granted.
Wabba said that with this development, the Union can no longer guarantee industrial peace.
Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while rejecting the new price said the government was out to punish Nigerians.
In a statement by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said the increase was callous and unjustifiable.
“The increase will result in upsurge in costs of goods and services and worsen the biting hardship being faced by Nigerians, who are already impoverished and overburdened by APC-imposed high cost of living in the last five years.”
Only few days ago, the electricity distribution companies introduced new tariff regime by about 100 percent increase.
