Justice Minister Condoles Families of Kebbi Boat Mishap Victims
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, Wednesday condoled the families of the victims of boat mishap which occurred in Kebbi state.
The sad incident which claimed 8 lives occurred at Tungar Geheru, Jega Local Government.
The Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations to the Attorney General, Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, in a statement said Malami was grieved by the sad incident and full of sympathies.
The Attorney General prayed for the repose of the soles of the affected victims.
The Chairman of Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Sani Dododo, disclosed the incident to journalists in Birnin Kebbi,Tuesday.
Dodo said, “Just yesterday (Monday) about 10:30 a.m, there was an incident at Tungar-Gegero in Jega Local Government Area, where eight people lost their lives to canoe mishap.
“Women and children, about 10 of them, were aboard with only one operator, a middle-aged man and he was trying to transport the people to a naming ceremony.
“They have started the journey and crossed to the other bank of the stream successfully, but on their way back, the canoe capsized and all the occupants were drowned in the water.”
