The 36 state governors have expressed worries over rising insecurity in the country.
As part of the efforts to see an end to this, the governors under Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Monday said they will be meeting President Muhammadu Buhari over the situation.
The governors who reacted to the attack on the governor of Borno state, Prof. Babagana Zulum, said it was sad that the security situation has continued to worsen in the country.
In a letter expressing solidarity with Zulum and signed by NGF’s Chairman Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who is Ekiti state governor, the forum said the security problem was rapidly degenerating.
In the attack, three security personnel of the governor were wounded and currently in hospital.
Fayemi disclosed that the governors would meet the President and the Service chiefs today over the security problem.
He described the attack on Zulum as unwarranted and one too many, adding, “it epitomizes our collective vulnerability and the fragility of the country’s security architecture.”
He added, “We are appalled by the worsening security situation in the country generally, in spite of all the efforts of the government to end it.”
Zulum was attacked last week by suspected members of a faction of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) in Baga and the incident had fuelled suspicion of sabotage.
